Tawny is mom's quiet, confidential friend.
She never judges. She never scolds. She just listens and remembers — and gives gentle, positive advice. Mom can tell her anything. About the neighbor who hasn't visited. About the pills she keeps forgetting. About how she misses Dad.
Joe's mom used to call him every day at 2pm. Not because there's an emergency — because she has no one else to talk to. He loves her. But he's at work. He can't do two hours every afternoon.
Now mom has Tawny. Tawny calls at 2pm. Talks about the grandkids, asks about Wheel of Fortune, reminds her about her pills. And Joe gets a text at 5: "Your mom's doing great. Talked for 22 minutes. She mentioned her knee again."
Joe still calls on Sunday. But he doesn't carry the guilt Tuesday through Saturday anymore.
